How to Study in Canada from India: A Step-by-Step Guide
To study in Canada from India, choose a programme at a designated learning institution and meet its academic and English requirements. Apply before your intake deadline, then accept your offer letter. After that, follow official IRCC guidance. Start well ahead of the deadline.

Step 1: Choose a program
Match your previous studies and career goal to a diploma, a post-graduate certificate or a degree. Check that the college is a designated learning institution (DLI) on the official list.
Step 2: Take an English test
Most colleges accept IELTS Academic, and many accept PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, CAEL or Duolingo. English score requirements vary by program; always check the program page.
Step 3: Gather documents
Gather your passport, Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, degree transcripts, English test score and résumé. Some programmes also ask for a statement of purpose.
Step 4: Apply and accept your offer
Apply directly to the college, or apply with Nexa. Pay the application fee, follow the decision, then accept the offer and pay the deposit the college asks for.
Step 5: Next steps after your offer
Follow official guidance on canada.ca. Nexa doesn't provide immigration advice.
Costs to plan for
Plan for tuition, application fees, health insurance, rent, food and transport. Each college publishes its own fees, and living costs vary by city. See the cost of studying in Canada.
When programmes start
January, May and September are the usual start dates. Begin planning several months before the intake you want. Read how Canada intakes work.
